Revealing the Special Character of the Home
This project required removal of the interior walls and changing the entire floor plan of this late 18th century farmhouse style home. We added several windows along the entire length of the main floor to bring in the gorgeous mountain views and lots of natural light.
We completely moved the location of the front entrance and altered the steep, old staircase that had previously aligned with the front door. The living room now lets into a bright sunroom that exits onto the stone patio. The staircase was beautifully altered, using reclaimed lumber from the property, to provide a safer, more comfortable descent.
We replaced the interior flooring with reclaimed lumber sourced from the original sub-floors and a portion of the Corn Crib that we disassembled.
The updated floor plan allowed us to extend the size of the kitchen, creating a free-flowing work area for cooking. We also added some custom cabinets to the larger space, as well as recycled the old cabinets and gave them a fresh coat of paint.
A master bedroom with a box bay window that looks out over the Vermont topography was added to the lower level, along with an ensuite master bath with a steam shower. A handcrafted, double vanity topped with locally-sourced Vermont Verde stone completes the suite.
Overhangs with Barrel vault ceilings were added to the rear and side entryways of the home to complete the exterior.
