Bringing in More Space, Light and Enhanced Views

This client needed to reinforce the foundation of their attached barn, and wanted to make their home more heat efficient, as well as add enhancements to the interior living space of this brick colonial.

We renovated and expanded the kitchen, including pushing it out eight feet on the back of the house and seven feet on the front, creating considerably more space. We then constructed a timber frame from within to add structure and a period aesthetic to the family room and kitchen areas. Large windows were added in the kitchen to showcase the stunning view at the rear of the room.

Radiant heated flooring and insulation were added for efficiency and comfort during Vermont’s coldest months.

The staircase to the second level of the home was upgraded and a new master bath was augmented. We repurposed a large window from the front of the home to the stairwell to bring sunlight onto the new staircase.

We constructed a sizable post and beam sunporch beside the front entryway of the home, and completed the exterior design with stone steps and restructured stone walls.

The foundation of the barn was secured, and new joists were added to reinforce the floor. We chose mahogany for the garage sills and the front porch flooring to add sustainable and attractive exterior details.
